I don't know why...

But I really enjoy this movie... This is a fairly useless review, since I really have nothing to say except for the obvious visual quality. I like it none the less.

I'm sorry what?

You actually believe that because you told people to in BIG CAPITAL LETTERS what they can and can not review, they will actually give a shit? That's just a bad idea right off the bat. I had a bad taste going before the movie was even loaded just because of this. This is the public now mate, don't release a preview and then ask people not to review the preview... It's just stupid.

Anyways on to the submission. The water droplet effect before the "menu" (i'd hardly call it a menu, more of a screen with a play button) was nice. The lightning effect was a bit shotty, but as you said it's your first "real" flash animation so that is to be expected. The clouds don't really look like clouds, and the thunder is too thick and needs to be a little more sporadic.

The clip itself barely has enough content to say anything about, but I'll try my best anyways. The drawings would be alright if they weren't line-tool traces. The grass blowing in the wind effect looks very awkward. You need to anchor the pivot point down to the base of the blade, not in the middle of the clump or else it looks like the grass is merely swivelling and the whole ground is moving. The eyes moving is alright.. I guess... It's hard to say when there is no emotion being portrayed. A simple furrowed brow to show they're angry at each other or something along those lines. As it stands that sequence is pointless, it's just a slow tween of the eyeball. Make a close up shot like that really mean something.

Overall there's nothing really going on in the movie, but don't fret because this is the kind of output every animator has when they first start. This shouldn't excuse the movie, but it certainly shouldn't put you down.

My biggest pet peeve about this submission (and yes this goes back to the Author's Comment) is as follows. This isn't school mate. You don't need to ask permission to keep moving forward with the animation you have in mind. Don't give us something that doesn't show anything visually mind blowing or intriguing and then ask "Want to see more of what looks like generic video game spin off?"
JUST DO IT!! Because I'm sure what you have in mind IS NOT just a generic video game spin off. I'm sure you have something in mind that is an epic duel between Sonic and Shadow that will be totally bad-ass.

Keep this submission on your hard drive (or in your portfolio database [deviantart, livejournal, etc]) as what it is, an animation test. Newgrounds is vicious, so hold your cards until the story unfolds in full and then submit something worth watching.

You've got potential, so I say keep going with this project and I look forward to the final project... Still voted 1 on this though.

evolvd-studios responds:

Errr...So...it was in CAPITAL letters and u still didnt read the comments? ~_~

I said CLEARLY to give contructive comments and review for ideas. Where are the ideas?!

Congrats!

It is such a great honour to be the 150th topic!

totally right?

Well Played

A very nice little piece of animation. You did a good job showing the state of both characters without using words, and their reactions were very expressive. There are two minor gripes I have as to the consistancy of the Blue fellow's character.

First, when the Boogley first enters the scene why does the blue character look at him with interest when he is clearly pissed off. It just didn't seem to fit his mood to have a curious smile on.
Secondly, I felt his burst into laughter should have been a little more gradual because it seemed to drastically change without warning. It would have been nice to see a progression (i.e. a smirk.. then "heh"... then "heh heh"... then small laughter... then crazy laughter or something along those lines).

A final minor thing I'd like to point out is that the blue character seemed to have a lot of trouble pushing the Boogley's arm off him. Maybe that's what you intended, but it just seemed like a forceful smack to the Boogley's arm would have done the trick =).

Overall I think you did a very good job with the character of the Boogley, it was consistent and brought out nicely. It was the Blue fellow that didn't seem to flow... Still a very good animation, Bravo!

TheBoogley responds:

Thanks for the feedback sandman, did you notice that the blue guy was much fatter at the start, it's like the boogley made him lose weight as well as cheering him up... I don't know, I just draw them. :3

Very nice work Master...

As you've probably noticed, I have been dormant in the LL lately. I visit from time to time, but never really posting much. I think watching this video has inspired me to make some more LL films =D.

The animation was good and I really like your new art style.
Keep on rockin'!

Make more flash you fluffy wad of sugar you. :'

Enough man!

I've been a fan of the series for a while now. The series was supposed to have ended at Episode 5... Then Ganon's minions came to avenge him, which was okay seeing as that's how it went down in Zelda II. But up until Post-Ep5 Episodes, you have been really true to the game as far as sound effects and moves, while having creatvice license and making it more hardcore. And that's why I liked the series.
But Link has a son and he becomes a hero? That isn't really something that fits into the Zelda universe. A hero is born approximatly every 100 years... But that's not really the point, it's you're movie, so whatever you say goes....
ANYWAYS
Onto the movie at hand...
The graphics seem the same as the last 5 movies in this series. A little sketchy, with even sketchier animation to boot. There are a few animation sequences which I really enjoyed, but most were just odd and a little surreal (when he's running for example).
I would have given you a style of 10 in the original episodes, but the story seems to be being dragged out, so that's why its low.
Some sounds didn't seem to fit. That's all I need to say.
Violence is high because it is a violent movie. I've never really understood the goodness of a high violence rating =P

Overall, I think this story has been drawn on far too long and that Link should have stayed slain as a grand finale way back in Episode 5. Good and evil, though opposites, are interconnected... One cannot exist without the other... When the Ultimate Evil (Gannon) is destroyed, there is no need for the Ultimate Good (Link)...
But I know this review won't stop you from making more, but take this into consideration... Take your time with Episode 9, 10, etc... Make their graphics shine like Adam Phillips or Mousekiliks. Hate my review right here and make me eat my words for the next episodes =D RENEW MY FAITH IN THE SERIES ^_^

Farore's speed, Din's power and Nayru's wisdom be with you =D

I don't usually respond to anything under 7, but I will for this long ass novel you wrote because I can tell some care and thought went into it. I hope you like the next one, but I do draw with a mouse, remember that!

What a happy flash =D

Besides the obvious visual inequities, this flash actually made me smile, and Im sure it will make my day just a little bit happier... thanks guys =D

TheSoulMan responds:

We are that happy and even more.

Good

The word that best describes it is stated above.. "Good". Nothing more. I will admit there were a few clips in there that were GORGEOUSLY animated but lasted a fraction of a second. The graphics score would have been higher, but the quality of animation and art varies throughout the submission, so that's my median.
You have the potential for greatness, but (aparently) the modivation for failure. If you sit yourself down and work on a project, it doesnt have to be long... two or three minutes, you could become one of the big names on Newgrounds.

And I'm realllly curious... How come I have seen at LEAST 5 submissions in the past week of people slapping together animation tests and calling it a submission? I will admit, there are many amazing animations within these piles of whatever, but that's the problem... Gold burried with coal... Shine up, lose the coal and take the gold to the portal =D

Keep up the work and submit something to blow me (and the rest of Newgrounds) away ^_^

fearing responds:

the perfect review :]

ill get to work on a plot soon.

im waiting on some feedback i had on this animation, for an idea and a script that someone pm'd me.

hopefully it will be good.

thanks again.

Veeerrrryy nice

The graphics were really nice. The animation was a bit sketchy in some parts, but good for the most part.

The sounds were fine, except for they didn't really SOUND like fireworks. They had a more metallic, stick against garbage can sound than an explosion.

Good work though

SushiMan0001 responds:

Forget "stick against garbage can", try "Holy Bible against How-to-write-Java book".
I was thinking about going back to change the sounds but that's usually how my Flash projects get left in the dark. I keep going back to change little details and it's never good enough. That's why I made one about the 4th of July. With a deadline I'll get it done; even if I don't think it's perfect.

Good show bud!

I love every one of your christmas flashes, they always make me smile.
IM JAMES BOND!!! gwawahahaha!!!

Grand show ol' chap!
